A nine-member delegation from the Federation of Korean Seafarers’ Unions (FKSU), spearheaded by President Park Seong Yong, visited SOS and SMOU on Jul 17 and 18 in a move to foster maritime unity and strengthen bilateral ties.
FKSU’s visit included a joint meeting with representatives from SOS and SMOU at Wavelink Building.
The meeting delved into the issues confronting seafarers amid the pandemic, highlighting collective initiatives to bolster their well-being. The dialogue also explored areas of future relevance in the maritime sector, including the environmental ramifications of shipping, technological advancements in ship digitalisation and strategies for decarbonisation.
The FKSU delegation also visited SOS and met with President Kam Soon Huat and GS Daniel Tan. The meeting, which included VP Mohamad Abu Bakar and ES Chen Chuanyi, offered the delegation an insightful overview of SOS and Seacare Co-operative. They were also given an exclusive tour of The Seacare Hotel’s amenities and facilities.
The visit served as a testament to the growing solidarity among maritime unions, setting the stage for collaborative efforts to navigate future challenges and opportunities in the maritime industry.
