SOS delegates comprising President Kam Soon Huat, AS Norani Mohamad Rais and IRO Alan Kor visited the National Chinese Seamen’s Union (NCSU) in Taipei in August 2023.
The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral ties between the two maritime trade unions, particularly in the post-pandemic context.
During the visit, NCSU provided an overview of its history, welfare schemes and pandemic response measures. Both parties engaged in constructive discussions, exploring opportunities for future collaboration and sharing best practices.
The SOS delegation also toured the Evergreen Seafarer Training Center, enabling them to assess the training equipment and programmes aimed at enhancing seafarers’ skills and productivity.
The visit marks a significant step in fostering stronger ties between SOS and NCSU and providing SOS with insights into innovative maritime training facilities and modules.
