Marking the first Family Day event organized by SOS since the Covid-19 pandemic, the celebration held on Jun 14 at Manila’s renowned Star City theme park was truly special. The previous family day had been in February 2020, just as the pandemic began.
This year’s event, in honor of the Day of the Seafarers, offered seafarers and their families free entry, waist pouches, brick toys for the children, and vouchers for games and food. Thoughtfully scheduled to align with the disembarkation period, it provided a perfect opportunity for seafarers to reconnect with their families and spend quality time together.
For many seafarers, bringing their entire families to the theme park is often prohibitively expensive, making this event a rare and cherished experience. Many attendees expressed gratitude for the chance to enjoy such a memorable day with their loved ones.
A photo booth and selfie station gave the families a memento to remember the family outing. Later, members gathered for a group photo and an exciting lucky draw. SOS President Kam Soon Huat took the opportunity to welcome the seafarers and wish the fathers present an early Father’s Day.
After the lucky draw, the SOS Group went around Star City to gather feedback from participants, ensuring future events continue to meet the needs and expectations of the seafaring community. The SOS team also visited Asilo de San Vicente de Paul orphanage on UN Avenue to make a donation before flying back to Singapore.
